
Arbroath Abbey is located close to the centre of the town of Arbroath. At first sight its urban setting seems odd, it's
too easy to forget that when it was built, over 800 years ago, few of the buildings you see today in this part of Arbroath would have existed.

Five miles north of Arbroath by road is the attractive little fishing village of Auchmithie, perched precariously on the
cliff-top with a steep descent to the harbour and quay. Auchmithie is the true home of the smokie and, though Arbroath later took the credit, the
village can at least lay claim to the region's best seafood restaurant, the But'n'Ben

Arbroath Harbour Visitor Centre opens its doors
A new lease of life beckons for Arbroath's historic and picturesque harbour with the official opening of its new visitor
centre. The harbour is set to thrive again with the eye-catching new development on the site of the former Gerrard's boatyard. The regenerated
harbour features a multi-media visitor information and orientation centre to be managed by national tourism agency VisitScotland, a seafood
restaurant, coffee shop, public toilets and two shops.

Lunan Bay has become more accessible in recent years with the building of a car park behind the dunes, but there's still
plenty of beach to go round. It is popular with surfers and horse riders, and fishing still takes place here, with nets strung from poles on the
beach to trap fish in the falling tide.

Arbroath Sea Fest is an annual festival of the Sea held along Arbroath's seafront and centring around the town's charming
harbour and new marina. Established in1997, Sea Fest is a popular celebration of Arbroath's marvellous maritime heritage, attracting 30,000
visitors over its two-day duration in August each year.
